Home Science 101

I was up till almost 3 am last nite (eh, morning?) helping Bibi to pack her luggage. Yes - she's going home for her biannual vacation this afternoon for 2 months.

Temp maid service has been arranged but she'll only be available from 20th Dec onwards though. I'll be on leave the whole week next week, so I reckon - no problemo. The week after, I'll most probably drop the kids at Kak Long's house, so no prob too I hope.

After the packing and after I taught Bibi how to lock & unlock the suitcase, it was Bibi's turn to give me a few pointers on this and that. Singkinya begitu begini.

Half way through, it hit me........

OH MY GOD!

Bibi is going home in less than 24 hours. And I've just officially discovered where the rempah-ratus and the onions are kept?

And OH MY GOD!!

We started using the new washing machine since we moved in a few months back. I don't even know how to operate THIS washing machine!

And heck! When was the last time I ironed Ayah's shirt?

OH MY GOD!!!

Tu baru in the kitchen. I already felt my head spinning. I pictured one of those big colourful tops from the east coast from Awang Goneng stories. My head vs the top, I wondered which one spinned faster. All I could think of was that my head was 'lagi terror' because it could spin that violently even without the help of any manly hurlings, so violent that it could potentially cause the first ever earth tremor in Rawang!

Oh Oh...... I'm in trouble, big time.

Some more perasan can cope with 2 weeks maid free?

You can bet McDonald's, Pizza Hut's & Ali Maju's sales would be up a few % the next few weeks. And so would Ah Lin's laundry shop.

All in the name of precaution against home hazards.

Say a prayer or two for Ibu pls?

Salam :C

May the Force be with you, Ibu.

HAHAHAHA! Sorry, tak boleh tahan nak tergelak, weh!

Seriously, kalau tak confident nak operate washing machine baru tu, hantar ajer semua kat Ah Lin Laundry tu. Ambik full package - 61D60N basuh, dry and lipat/iron (errr... nak tanya sket - washing machine lama dulu tu pun you boleh operate ke in the first place?!) Hahahah!

Ibu, aha, your love affair with the kitchen is about to be rekindled! Benci2 rindu, gitu. it is like riding a bike. You'll be okay!

Ibu, you definitely can do it lah. Just imagine at the end of the 2 weeks, you will sit down and feel proud that you have gone thru all of the challenges without bibik around!

Ibu,

You'll be ok lah!

Like me, I was worried like you when my maid had to go back for 2 weeks last year. With a small baby lagi lah pening.

But I enjoyed it after a while. My house was spotless clean, just like how I wanted it. My kids helped out, just like what I wanted, and I had a peace of mind...

Of course, my husband helped lah. The tip is, hantar laundry pegi kedai. Senang. Masak ~ husband masak for dinner. I took care of the days' meals, jaga rumah & budak2 saja.

Bila time maid nak balik, I wished she wouldn't come home so quickly tho' my husband was very glad for her to come back! C'est la vie!

Take care!

p/s Are you able to join us on the 21st Dec? Check my blog.

Arsaili...

Thanks for the encouragement - I should be fine by my own standards. Kahkahkah...

Madam Tai-Tai,

Pejam celik, pejam celik... there could be 2 possibilities. Either pejam tak celik2 or celik terbeliak langsung tak bley tutup. Hahaha...

I know I'm being a pessimist this time around. I'm underpromising myself with a dash of hope to overdeliver. Kiasu within myself as usual. LOL!!!

Kak Teh,

Thank you for helping to reminisce the past. But u r actually making me even more nervous. There's not much nostlagic memories at all to be rekindled when it comes to me & my kitchen. Traumatic experience ada lah... hehehe... but .... this time takde smoke detector. So I hope the neighbours won't know if anything's burning. Even if they smell something, perhaps they would think we are BBQing in the house (sbb kat luar hujan kan????). LOL!!!!

I need all the luck indeed. Salam Aidil Adha to you & family too.

Spena dear,

Thanks for hopping by. The 2 weeks tu baru nak tunggu temp maid sampai.

But bibik is off for 2 MONTHS.

Ouchhhh!!!

Mrs N,

I sure do hope your prediction will come true.

I am quite sure I can be ok if I can passify myself to accept the standards that I personally can deliver. i.e.
1) maintain the house reasonably clean & uncluttered (err... spotlessly clean is far too high a standard :D )
2)hubby can still smile with such basic maintenance (don't he dare frown - as he himself hardly lift any finger around the house, other than clicking the internet & the remote control buttons!)
3) Masak? Masak air, masak maggie, rebus telur - pass with flying colors. The rest - don't anyone dare sebut !! kehkehkeh!! By the way.... I've updated pizza delivery toll free number in my handphone, yeayyyyy!!!!

Thanks for the moral support and encouragement. Let's see if I can survive this ordeal.
